PE firm backing a Silicon Valley EAP and employee mental health provider offering global services.

REQUIREMENT

Search and acquisition of EAP providers in Japan and South Korea.

CHALLENGE

Client had previously tried and failed to make an acquisition in Japan. The project was complicated by the cultural and language challenges of the two countries.

SOLUTION

We used multiple international and in-country data sources to identify the population of EAP providers in each country. These were then short-listed according to detailed agreed criteria which required the hiring of local EAP experts to gain access and data, due to language and cultural barriers. To enable face-to-face senior meetings with targets, required our client to sponsor and speak at a topically relevant webinar in partnership with the local professional body.
Thereafter, we found a local, experienced deal maker to liaise in an appropriate manner (i.e. very carefully) with the owner.

THE OUTCOME

South Korea filtered to a single target.
Nine initial meetings held in Tokyo. Targets filtered to a shortlist of three and the identification of a suitable Tokyo resident consultant/ agent for the negotiation phase.
Project currently on hold pending sufficient client bandwidth to complete.
