News Digest July 2021

A curation of news stories impacting health insurance and brokers, population health management and health tech from last month.

Please find below our latest round up of news articles that impact or inform our industry.

The biggest story of July is the collapse of the merger between Aon and WTW after the US DOJ brought an anti-trust lawsuit against the mega-merger. What will happen to the adjacent acquisitions such as Gallagher remains to be seen.

We see that the trend for creating niche products is continuing. Aetna launched a package for international workers in Africa in partnership with Sanlam following their similar product launch in the Middle East and AXA launched a product for international students from Hong Kong.

Acquisitions abound in the health services space with Europe’s digital health sector hitting its peak investment level so far in Q1 2021. We notice the decreasing utilisation rates for telehealth, in the US, as people return to face-to-face doctor visits, while usage of remote mental health services continues to rise.

As ever we hope you enjoy the newsletter, and please do let me know if you have any feedback.
