A curation of news stories impacting health insurance and brokers, population health management and health tech from last month.
In IPMI, IPMI Global (Ian Youngman’s) annual summary of the IPMI market is out again, highlighting the HNWI market especially. The US short term PMI/IPMI looks like it could face a punitive change in regulation soon. Thirdly, Trawick International, led by a regional IPMI expert, David Capote, enters the LatAm market.
Also this month a flood of predictions on the global PMI market, the most surprising of which is a decline (yes, I did say decline) in the total US premiums in 2023, as government Covid support ceases.
Better news is announced by Teladoc, although it is only that losses are lower (down to $65M!), with good growth in mental health and high potential in virtual weight management programmes.
However, digital health investment is down vs ’22 and ’21 as the industry acknowledges the difficulties of disruption, country specific barriers and low take-up.
We are very interested to see the innovation and success in inbound medical tourism to Dubai and Tunisia.
Finally, we see early regulation attempts around AI in healthcare, worth watching.
