GLOBAL HEALTHCARE STRATEGY

News Digest August 2023

A curation of news stories impacting health insurance and brokers, population health management and health tech from last month.

As we all head back to work, the Q2/1H 2023 results season is upon us, with overall positive outcomes for both payers and providers. We see strong growth predictions for global health insurance in reports, even in countries with a formerly dead sector like UK domestic PMI. Drivers are: struggling state systems and the greater efficiency, customisation and cover, now possible due to AI, new systems, better data and new drugs (eg Wegovy). The relative outperformance of self-insurance schemes stands as both a challenge and an opportunity for insured schemes.

Of special interest are articles reviewing the many partnership and acquisition deals in global PMI, the imminent (2024) arrival of mandatory health cover in Bahrain, and some useful feedback on what consumers themselves want in their plans.
